The ABC's of Jewelry Making

I've always been intrigued with jewelers who make the process of making jewelry look so easy. You know the one's I'm talking about, the person who can take any type of stone or found object and within a matter of minutes create a stunning piece of jewelry with it.

Well if this sounds familiar to you, and you don't want to spend the next few days searching the web for the best how-to jewelry making video's, then check out the site I've found for you. It's a YouTube site created by
the great people at Fire Mountain Gems.

The site consists of 51 unique and informative how-to video's on jewelry making. If this site doesn't make you want to start making your own jewelry, then nothing will! So check it out, then tell us all what great things it inspired you to create!

Have a great day!

Ready for your Holiday Sales?

If you're planning to do any holiday shows this season chances are you already have your extra supply of product made. But if you're waiting until it gets a little closer to the holidays, you may be putting yourself in a bit of a bind.

On average more people today start their holiday shopping in the months of August and September, incorporating it into their monthly budget. With the economic decline affecting so many of us, we have all been forced to shop smarter with less money.

Having sales and special pre-Christmas offers is a great way to drive traffic to your booth, website or business. A free gift offered with every purchase is another enticement for your customers. Once customers have chosen to check out your booth, website or business you should always have a large selection of items there for them to choose from.

No matter how you wish to approach your holiday season there is no substitute for being courteous and respectful of those wanting to spend their hard earned money in your shop. With that said, we wish everyone a joy filled and prosperous holiday season.

Special Request Jewelry

For those of us who do art fairs and shows on a regular basis we know how important it is when a customer asks us to do a special piece for them. This is even more important when they are requesting a piece to match one that they just purchased from us.

Recently, while doing shows in our area, I had a number of these requests . It soon became apparent that I needed to be more prepared for my customers and for these types of events.

Below are a few items I have found to be "must haves" when packing for a show. The best thing is that these items can easily be packed into a large ziploc or small travel size container.

1) Cloth or plastic measuring tape
2) Camera
3) Small notebook

Having the measuring tape to measure your customer's wrist or neck with is imperative. There's nothing worse than creating an item especially for someone only to find out it doesn't fit. If your customer has a larger wrist than most, you'll be glad you brought this with you. The camera comes in handy when your customer requests that you make a bracelet to match an existing necklace or vice versa. A picture of the item you need to match is a valuable thing to have. The small notebook is extremely helpful when there are special instructions your customer has given you and you don't want to forget them. In the course of a day you will be interacting with a lot of different people with a lot of different questions and requests, having a notebook handy to jot down these notes can save you valuable time and stress when you're back in your studio.

As artists we take pride in everything we create, no matter where the inspiration comes from. By carrying a few simple tools with you to your next show you can relax and enjoy the days events knowing that you are well prepared to handle any special request that comes your way.

Start Your Summer Off Right!

We always have certain things we like to do during the Winter months, and hopefully you got all of yours done. My thing to do during the Summer months is participate in as many outdoor events as possible. We like doing our craft shows and fairs during the Summer because they're just so much fun. The people you meet are always so interested in seeing what you've done. But did you ever think about doing a farmers market or garden party put on by a local business? There are lots of local charity events just begging for good quality vendors to participate in their activities.

So this Summer try doing something different. Set yourself apart from the others. You might just find you enjoy doing something different from the rest of the crowd.

Do You Have a Great Blog?

If you have a great blog and would like a little extra exposure maybe we can help. If you would like us to feature your blog on our Blog Roll just drop us a line. We would be happy to! Just tell us a little bit about when you started your blog, what your primary focus is on and a little something about your background and how it lead you to start your blog.  Give us your name, blog address, and an email address we can contact you at. Fell free to provide any other information you would like. We will then check out your blog and send you an email letting you know if we included you on our blog roll or not. If we don't accept your blog we will let you know why it wasn't suited for our blog roll, and in most cases, will refer to you another site that would be more suited for your blog.

Periodically, we do articles referencing various artists and bloggers and you just may be one we choose. As the list of Blog Roll blogs grows we will rotate the the blogs in order to make sure everyone gets their blog seen. So you should see your blog on our Blog Roll on and off again at various times. We will not delete your blog from our list, don't worry, unless you request it. So get yourself noticed and send us your request today!

Transform Your Winter Solstice

Well here we are in a new year. We dearly hope that 2009 was a remarkable year for everyone and that 2010 will be even more remarkable.

We opened our site “Crystal Wand Links” to help you take advantage of all the great online deals that were being offered for the holiday’s, and we hope you all had a chance to view and take advantage of some of them.

Now that the holiday’s are over and old man winter has settled in, we thought we would revise the site to offer you some great online deals that would help with that quality time you’ll be spending indoors. The new links are geared towards all the sites that will help you be a better person, inside and out. It’s that time of year when we all need to feel good about ourselves, so that’s what these links are all about.

You may see some of the same sites from the holiday list, but you will also see some new ones too. Each site offers online deals that will be offered for a limited time only. We will do our best to keep only the deals that are still active listed so you know you will be able to take advantage of each great deal.

From incense to music to PJ’s and craft ideas, we have given you links to some on the web’s greatest online deals for your winter solstice. We hope you take advantage of these great sites, and wish you a comfortable and relaxing Winter season!
